Credits and licences

Yani stands on generous work: native speakers, researchers, open-licence projects and open-source software. Thank you, all of you.

Draft – pending legal review. This is a plain-English draft. It may change before Yani launches publicly.

In today's lessons

Every phrase in Yani is traced to its source. These are the sources in the content you can learn now (content version 2026.11.08-1).

Sources, research and voices

The wider sources our content pipeline draws on, and how we use each one.

  • Emirati language materialsPublic domain (US Government work)

US Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Native Emirati recordings, phrases and dialogues.

  • Gumar corpus n-gramsCC BY 3.0

CAMeL Lab, New York University Abu Dhabi. Emirati word and phrase frequencies, to decide what to teach first.

  • Wiktionary and WikipediaCC BY-SA

Wikimedia Foundation and contributors. Background and cross-checks, only where an Emirati source agrees.

  • Emirati FastPitch voiceCC BY 4.0

Vadim Belsky. An AI voice for forms we haven't recorded yet. Your lessons use it only once Emirati reviewers approve the form, and it's labelled wherever it plays.

  • Cori, an English voice for PiperPublic domain

Bryce Beattie, trained on public-domain LibriVox recordings. The English prompts in Drive mode, generated in advance and shipped as recordings.

Our reviewers

A phrase a native speaker didn't record reaches your lessons only once an Emirati reviewer approves it. None has been approved yet, so everything you study today is a native recording.
